French First Lady Carla Bruni has had so much botox she 'looks like a chipmunk', a leading American dermatologist has claimed.
Los Angeles skin expert Dr Ben Behnam launched the astonishing personal attack after seeing recent photos of the 44-year-old former supermodel.
Dr Benham said: 'Carla is over botoxed. She's had way too much done.
Before and after: Carla Bruni looking fresh faced in 2003, left, and right, rather more surprised in Paris last month
'That's why she has the surprised look on her face and looks like a chipmunk.'
The one-time Givenchy and Christian Dior cover girl had had a 'lateral brow lift' and fillers in her cheeks, Dr Benham said.
He added: 'She looks like she's had Radiesse, which is a filler for wrinkle reduction. But her results do not look natural.
'A lot of celebrities these days look the same. They all have the puffy cheeks and cat like eyes.
'What they should do is just do a little bit so it just makes them look like a younger version of themselves rather than a 50-year-old trying to look 25.
Change: Los Angeles skin expert Dr Ben Behnam, said Ms Bruni, seen right with husband French president Nicolas Sarkozy last year, looks like a 'chipmunk' after having 'way too much work done'
'A good treatment to get is Sculptra because it looks more natural and can make patients look pretty and attractive rather than that ridiculous fake look.'
Bruni has been the focus of intense French media attention and a raft of unflattering photographs since marrying French president Nicolas Sarkozy four years ago.
She gave birth to their first baby, a daughter named Guilia, late last year.
British cosmetic surgeon Dr Alex Karidis said a year ago that Carla - who once dated Mick Jagger and Eric Clapton - was showing 'all the classic signs of a devotion to Botox and fillers'.
He said: 'The tiny shadows you can just see beneath her nose were probably caused by injectable fillers to get rid of nose-to-mouth lines.
Au natural: The former Italian top model performs at the Victoires de la Musique 2004 awards ceremony in Paris
...And back in her modelling days: Ms Bruni struts her stuff down the catwalk in Milan in 1991, left, and right, waves to fans in Cannes in 1999
'And although she had plump cheeks in her youth, it looks like they have been injected with filler too as they are very defined.'
Dr Dav Panacer, medical director of skinmedics.co.uk, added: 'The skin under her eyes is thin and wrinkled, which happens when the collagen and elastin in the skin's cells breaks down. .
'She appears to have lots of open pores on her cheeks and chin, which again is part of the ageing process.
'She looks like she uses a lot of make-up to cover them, but this can actually make the problem worse.'
And after seeing one photo of Carla taken in May 2010, top London make-up artist Julia Bolino said: 'It is shocking to see Carla looking like this. It looks like she's been caught out in the harsh light.
'Botox seems to have accentuated her already almond-shaped eyes, so she needs to do all she can to open them up.'
But French dermatologist Adrienne Blanco said: 'Carla has fabulous bone structure, but she is also a woman approaching early middle age who has just had a baby and she clearly feels she needs cosmetic enhancements to hold onto her looks.'
