A seven-year-old boy from the Bay Area has been left orphaned after his father gunned down his mother at work before he was shot dead by police.

Alonna Gallon, 24, was fatally shot by her ex-partner in what has been reported by police as an act of domestic violence on Thursday at Berkeley Toyota service center in Albany around 11.15am.

Police were on the scene within minutes, where five Berkeley officers confronted and shot dead the man, who has not yet been identified. Two other employees were in the building at the time of the shooting but were not injured.

The couple's son, King Walker, 7, has been left to grieve the death of his parents alongside his grandmother - the mother of Alonna, Yuvonda Gallon.

Describing the heartbreaking moment she had to tell her grandson of their deaths, Yuvonda said: 'I told him that his mother and father was gone, he just laid his head back and said, "no they not". And, after that he's been crying, we all broke out crying'.

The boy's parents were separated at the time of the shooting and co-parenting him, according to reports.

Alonna's mother said she had previously made a 'conscious decision to distance herself' from the father 'due to reckless behavior'.

She added that her daughter tried her best to make their co-parenting relationship as healthy as possible, and that the father had made multiple attempts to get back with her daughter.

Yuvonda told KTVU: 'I would want to die before any of my kids. I don't want to see none of my kids, I don't want any parent to have to ever go through this.'

She had been working at the dealership for three years, where her mother said she was employed in the call center. Yuvonda told The Mercury News her late daughter also had two other jobs at a rental car company and a grocery store.

Yuvonda has set up a GoFundMe page entitled 'Supporting King Walker', to raise money for her orphaned grandson.

On the donation page, Yuvonda said: 'This tragedy leaves behind a child who will need not only the support of his close family but of the community around him. As one could imagine, losing a mother so tragically is devastating for anyone, especially a young child whose as close to their mother as King was to his.

'Alonna was the kind of mother who always put King's needs before her own and dreamed of a life where she'd send her son off to college and support him through his transitioning stages of life. Alonna declared to be the best mother she could be to King from the very moment she found out she'd be a young mother,' she added.

A donation goal has been set at $50,000, with $35,700 raised so far.
