Daniel Radcliffe Calls Losing His Virginity: "A Really Good Time"
He’s played a boy wizard, stepped into extremely dark and serious roles, and now Daniel Radcliffe is delving into romance in his new comedy What If. The film, which hits theaters on Aug. 8, has been called a “modern day When Harry Met Sally” and costars Zoe Kazan and Girls’ Adam Driver.
To commemorate his first rom-com, the Harry Potter star, 25, spoke with Elle about his own relationships and losing his virginity.
“I’m one of the few people who seem to have had a really good first time. It was with somebody I’d gotten to know well,” the British star told the magazine. “I’m happy to say I’ve had a lot better sex since then, but it wasn’t as horrendously embarrassing as a lot of other people’s.”
The actor, who is currently dating his Kill Your Darlings costar Erin Darke, was happy to discuss his thoughts on sex. After admitting to struggling with alcohol during the filming of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince in 2009, Radcliffe discussed having sex sober.
“For some people sex might be better drunk, but for me—and the person I’m doing it with—it’s much better sober,” he revealed.

It makes sense that the Broadway star wouldn’t mind talking about sex. In 2007, Radcliffe starred in the revival of the dark play Equus, which forced him to strip down to full-frontal nudity in front of a live audience.
“I’m fairly comfortable with it,” he said of exposing his body. “There’s something to be said for getting naked onstage when you’re 17. I was f–king terrified then. I went out with quite a few girls at that time. I would normally follow that up with, ‘Oh, cool, you’ve seen me naked.’”
