Man Sexually Assaulted Woman in Parking Lot While Her Mother Was Inside StorePolice
A 61-year-old man has been accused of sexually assaulting a woman with nonverbal autism in a Sarasota parking lot, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office.
The alleged victim's mother was inside a store on the 1800 block of Stickney Point Road at time of the incident.
She told officers she had left her 21-year-old daughter in the passenger seat of her car. She added her daughter has developmental disabilities and the capacities of a 6-year-old.
She said that when she came back to her vehicle after leaving the store she found Frank Szakacs inside her vehicle and on top of her daughter, around 7 p.m.
Police said a friend of Szakacs witnessed the incident and told them that he is a registered sex offender. Szakacs was apprehended and arrested in a nearby wooded area. He was charged with sexual assault and kidnapping and is being held without bond.
The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office issued a press release after the arrest. The report detailed Szakacs' previous arrests and crimes he has been charged with.
Szakacs has ten prior arrests in Sarasota County for crimes including sex offender violation, battery, and DUI.
The report stated: "He was originally convicted in 1996 of Gross Sexual Imposition in Cuyahoga, Ohio.
"He then failed to meet sex offender registration requirements in 2019 in Sarasota and was sentenced to three years in prison.
"He was released on November 30, 2021, and registered as a transient living in Venice and more recently as a transient living along Ashton Road in Sarasota.
The police report also detailed that Szakacs has been in prison multiple times. This included in 1987 for robbery and 2016 for his fourth DUI conviction. In total Szacs has 29 prior charges and four convictions.
The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are pending.
