Love Child character Patricia 'Pattie' Saunders' devastating loss of her stillborn daughter Jean gripped viewers of the TV drama in Season Two.

But the scene has had a lasting effect on the actress who played her, Harriet Dyer, as well.

Feeling as if she'd actually suffered the tragic loss of a child herself, the 27-year-old actress told news.com.au: 'You go to a pretty dark corner of your life,'

Admitting that she's still to this day trying to get over the grief, the actress says it's a by-product of throwing yourself headfirst into the storyline.

'I’ve never yelled like that before at someone in my life,' she said of her character's labour screams at Matron.

Adding: 'It just felt the way it looked, I think I felt red, I felt tense, I don't remember much, it's a slightly hypnotic state when you’re that worked up, your brain helps you forget things that aren't nice.'

The starlet confessed in a video on Channel 9's Jump In, that the emotional experience felt very real to her.

'My body felt like I had lost something quite big to me because your body doesn't know the difference between fantasy and reality,' Harriet admitted.

'Your body reacts the way it would in a situation of grief or fear, it makes you a bit empty.'

'It's very taxing on you as a person,' she added.

The gut-wrenching scenes affected the actress so much so, that she feared for her pregnant best friend's baby and was plagued with nightmares her friend would have a stillborn.

Thankfully, although overdue, her friend's baby was delivered healthy and well.

Harriet, who is currently starring in the Australian film Ruben Guthrie, admitted wearing the large prosthetic baby bump on the TV show has made her a little broody.

But there is no baby news for the starlet, who is understood to be dating Australian LA-based actor Ben Lawson.
